Children like holidays. They don’t want it to be over; they just want to keep

enjoying the fun that comes with it even when it’s glaring to them that it’s already over.

How then can parents better prepare their wards for resumption, how can they better package school to be something worthwhile for their kids including those that are stepping into school corridor for the first time?

Beloware the points to consider before resumption.

PREPARING EMOTIONALLY.

Make the school look interesting: It’s pertinent to let your child or wards know of the beautiful and interesting things about school. You must have been sounding this into his or her ear in a lovely manner long before school resumes, you might be surprise how hopeful he or she will be about resuming school.

Let them sleep early: Once you notice that school will soon resume, always make sure your child or ward sleeps early enough; this will prepare him or her to also wake early and prepare for school. This will save you time preparing him for school every morning.

Visit the school together: in order to make to make school very interesting for your child, you should always visit the school with him or her. This will boost his or her confidence and let him or her see learning as fun.

If possiblemeet the teacher together: don’t always allow your child or wards to meet the school authorities or teachers alone, meet the school authorities together, this is one of the confidence booster.

Go on exciting trip together to buy uniform: while the school is yet to resume, you can go on an exciting trip together, buy uniform, launch box, bags, socks, books, pencils etc and make it fun.

PREPARING PRACTICALLY:

Preparing your children practically involves the things he or she would need in school to make his or her study more efficient. The following and not limited to these are very important: his uniform, socks, books, shoes, launch box, pencils/pen, school bag and other things necessary which would make learning interesting for him.

Avoid junk food which could make him or her sleep in school, nutritionist would tell you the best meal you can give your children before going to school. Foods that can digest easily are always recommended.

PREPARE THEM PSYCHOLOGICALLY

Ask your child about her feelings — both the excitement and the concerns — about starting school. Let your child know that all kids are nervous about the first day of school.

Let your child know what his schedule will be like. Tell him what time school begins and ends each day. Point out the positive aspects of starting school. It will be fun and she can make new friends.

PREPARING ACADEMICALLY AND WITH LIFE SKILLS:

It won’t be enough to do all of the above. Parents must also strive to prepare their wards to read before school resumes. Many teachers employs home tutors, am not here to talk about them. You can also learn to read to them yourself.

Another thing to do is to teach then to recognise their name especially those in their early years.  It’s not just enough to recognise their names but also write them. They must learn the alphabet and the sounds even before school resumes.

Another thing to teach them is the use of toilet, how to take care of yourself in the toilet, hand washingHow to talk, communicate with other children and also take all concerns and needs to a grown up.

It’s also important for parents to visit the school with your child to see his new classroom and meet his new teacher before school officially starts. They can also leave a note in their child’s lunchbox that will remind him or her they are thinking of him or her while he’s at school.

As a parent, you can reassure your child that if any problems arise at school, you will be there to help resolve them. Try to have your child meet a classmate before the first day of school so he or she will already have a friend when school starts.

Arrange for your child to walk to school or ride together on the bus with another kid in the neighbourhood. Find out about after-school activities that your child can join and be duly informed about them to avoid panicking when your child did not return on time.
